K. I. S. S. by Lui Hon

One of the most 'how did they do that?' collections of A/W10 is now available at Milly Sleeping.

All but one of our selection of Lui Hon garments can be worn two ways, or even more.

The adaptions range from subtle twists to total transformations - a little loop that lifts a hem, a basic tie to adjust the neckline, or a handy bag that becomes a dress.

The mutability is intriguing and downright useful; it can also be intimidating, even to shopgirls. Lui relates the workings of his pieces to the art of the origami. Like origami, partaking in the folding and turning is the best way to understand and appreciate the outcome, and we are happy to go through the process with you... There's only one piece that can really be classified as tricky and, as it turns out, it's also the garment that gives the most insight into how things works in general, offering little hints that you might apply to existing pieces in your wardrobe.

P. S. There are two ways, too, to cheer Lui on during the upcoming L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival:

... By attending the Independent Runway show on March 20 (also see Kuwaii and Alexi Freeman), OR, by sending all kinds of positive thoughts and lucky tidings via autumnual breezes, as he contends this year's prestigious Woolmark Designer Award.

MS 4 TH (for Autumn, at least)

On page 'L 107' of The Melbourne Design Guide, there is a paragraph or so about the 'coveted collections' of Hua. The last line reads, 'Milly Sleeping loves this label', and it's true, we do.

We are, thus, extremely pleased to announce we have something special from Hua in store for Autumn - a varied and beautiful selection of samples and garments from 'coveted collections' of the past, including absolute favourites such as the crop shrug, the two-way ripple puff-sleeve jacket (who could help but want a two-way ripple puff-sleeve jacket?), the pointy-shoulder top and the curving wrap cardigan.

There's also much we've never seen before, and the prices are new too - mostly between about 20% to 50% off recommended retail. Let's have a look:

N. B. The pieces are mostly either samples, or sample-sized, meaning that most (but not all) of the selection ranges from size 06 to size 10.

rolling in, rolling on

Yesterday there were two little wish fairies gathered in the changeroom. Today, there were three. They are obviously impatient to see the incoming pieces for Autumn.

A very few garments have arrived, and what starts with a trickle will become a creek, will become a stream and so on. Not long, little fairies, not long.

Did you see the Lui Hon piece in Grazia, too?

Voila.

More tunic or long top than 'dress' - lovely neckline, long sleeves, 100% cotton, soft, soft, soft.

Comes in white and 'stone' (which we've been calling 'putty' on the phone).

Friday fray

Just stepped out on a bank/post/lunch run, and what a mad world it is out there...

So many things to avoid – the portable air-con units in the bank, and the teller who I’m sure associates me with a bad day because once someone in front of me accused him of skimming fifty dollars … Spruikers and the girl in the floral dress on a bike without a helmet … The heat! The heat! … Any one of twelve orange-vested construction units currently drilling into Carlton street corners … Plastic containers in the sushi shop, and nearly buying a box of Hello Panda chocolate biscuits to consume in less time than in takes to read this post.

Aren’t I glad to be safely back inside where it’s cool and calm?
