One (not so) fine morning

The Alexi Freeman Pop-up Parade at Flinders Street Station yesterday made for an early morning walk in the rain. The sun wasn't shining over our way but the clothes were - it was a strange and entertaining setting in which to view garments from the new Diamondiferous collection.

We imagined that the models might have more space to roam, around the station's columns, up and down the stairs ... but it was good to be in close proximity to the pieces and the finishing touches - the scarves, the belts, the tassles.

One passerby tried to steal the limelight but the printwork could not be outdone...

... Alexi's original patterns, digitally printed this season onto a range of luxurious fabrics, are made up of countless tiny triangles - one version in pastels and the other in white, black and the shades in between.

The soundtrack for the event was some kind of slow-building powerballadrockanthem - Alexi told me what it's called and I've forgotten, but it was great. Well done AF and models. To see more pics of the event, have a little look at our photo album on Facebook.

Love & a few questions
Nice little interview with Kristy B of Kuwaii fame in the current issue of Oyster magazine:

We saw Kuwaii in parade last night as part of the MSFW Designer Series Show 1, and were proud to see the Love & A Question collection looking refined, desirably melding soft and strong. A bit of a strange event, though - the catwalk arrangement (a large loop surrounding half of the audience) would possibly have been more exciting if dozens of models had been available to make a dazzling, fast-paced circuit. As it was, there were generally only two models with a lot of ground to travel at any given point in time.
Still, it was wonderful to see new work and new styles by Susan and Chantal of MATERIALBYPRODUCT (and sit behind cool Joanna Preston wearing a classic MBP leather coat - delays providing ample time to study the intricate punch-out details... and the striking young woman sitting next to her, dressed in a simple, little cobalt blue shot silk dress with a blonde bob and a nose ring ... Front-row nose rings are not that common - she wore hers wonderfully).
It was also a great surprise to see Lui Hon so strongly represented in the Assin outfits, and an exciting moment to watch Arnsdorf lead out the entire show ... Jade Sarita Arnott's very beautiful label will be the newest addition to Milly Sleeping this Spring.
P. S. The people at Oyster have also been talking to Clea from Limedrop, and a lot of people have been paying attention. When published online, this interview generated the greatest traffic ever between Oyster's newsletter and website, and subsequently became one of their top 20 most read articles (proving its title pretty apt). Limedrop will be part of Designer Series Show 4 on Friday night, and we're pretty sure tickets are still available.

Pic of the day

What a gorgeous photo, from the opening of Renaissance Dinosaur at Karen Woodbury. In the middle is artist Kate Rohde, with Anna and Luke from Romance Was Born on either side. Behind them, their magnificent collaborative print (called Renaissance Garden), which has been applied to silk crepe de chine for t-shirts, dresses and scarves ... Coming soon to Milly Sleeping ...
